SCHOOLS
update

McClymonds High School

The Mo' Better Food Market started on the front lawn of McClymonds in 1998. During those days, I was the Director of the Business Academy at McClymonds High School.

Since my teaching days at McClymonds High School, I have continued to be apart of the McClymonds Family. For example, I am an advisory board member
(co-chair) of McClymond's Global Trade Academy, McClymonds Merit Award Board, the PTSA and member of the McClymonds High Schoool Alumni Association. We also host and maintain the mcclymondshigh.org website to bridge the campus to the community.

Claremont Middle School

Since 2009, Mo' Better Food After School has managed a cooking/gardening after school at Claremont Middle School which served , 10-20, 6th-8th students 4 days a week. Through the assistance of the school's Principal, Ms. Kenya Crokett, Claremont's PTSA, and the Project Peace volunteers, we have been able to create a beautiful garden that has become quite educational. Over this past Summer, Claremont Middle School went through a 3 million dollar renovation. The garden was taken out during the process.

We are currently scheduling 1stsaturdays over the next few months to rebuild the schools garden.

Sankofa Academy

Last year, 2010-2011, Mo' Better Food After School program began at Sankofa Academy.

Mostly, 2nd and 3rd graders planted tomotoes, sunflower, turnip greens, pumpkins, carrots, and a whole bunch of other things.

They also learned some basic science principles in the classroom such as photosynthesis, seasons to plant, water, and they learned how to have fun!

We played a lot of kickball, and pulled a lot of weeds! During the garden/cooking classes, each day the students conduct some form of exercise.
