The Mandela Farmers Market
"It must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life doesn't lie in not reaching

calamity to die with dreams unfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream.
It is not a disaster to be unable to capture your ideal, but it is a disaster to
have no ideal to capture. It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars, but
is is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for. Not failure, but low aim

Mission of the Mandela Farmers Market:
The
Mandela Farmers Market is a component of the Mo' Better Food program, which has
a mission of developing markets in predominately Black communities for Black
farmers. Another aspect of The Mo' Better Food Program is to promote local
merchants to grow their business as the market continues to grow. The overall
vision is develop a meeting grounds for the entire community.
The Atmosphere:
During the Mandela Farmers Market the Hungry DJ Possey spins
soul/reggae/rock and roll/Jazz and other forms of music to create an atmosphere
that brings out the community. We set up chess boards, and dominoes to
enable residents to play together, and to get to know one another. In essence,
we help build the community one weekend at a time.

The Mandela Farmers Market is located at 7th Street
and Mandela Parkway in West Oakland
Time/date:
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every Saturday
