MO’
BETTER FOOD™
“Connecting Black Farmers to the
Black Community”

How To Support
We appreciate you considering supporting our efforts. As you may have
witnessed, our main goal is to achieve Healthy Economics. We see each
component: The Economic and Educational Strategies, The Food Coop, the
Mandela Farmers Market, The Farm Study Tour, The Investigate your History,
The Map Construction and display, and The Southern Land Plan, as links on a
chain. Without one link, the chain does not work. However, there may be a
special interest or experience you or your organizations has, that you would
like to make available for our efforts. One thing for sure, we need money
to turn these ideas into full fledge programs, businesses, and organizations
that work together to develop independence and self sufficiency from within
our communities.
What is the Model Mo’ Better seeks to create?
The chain that we seek to create, we believe can be duplicated across the
country. California is the number one state in agriculture, and yet African
American farmers are less than 1 percent of all the farmers in the state of
California. In the communities of Oakland and San Francisco where Black
people tend to live, one will witness liquor stores and churches, but no
fresh fruits and vegetables. Yet, the health studies show the relationship
the lack of fresh fruits and vegetables is having with the increase of
cancer and other ailments in these communities. The model of Healthy
Economics – which consists of cultural and agricultural strategies are
mechanisms which we believe will enable the rural and urban communities to
strengthen their communication and thus enhance commerce and awareness.
Currently, we are focusing on “physically building Healthy economics in
Oakland (because our administrative office is in Oakland), but through our
model which promotes partnerships in other cities, states, etc, we plan to
Healthy Economics around the nation. This campaign we call “Feed A Nation.”
Feed a Nation!
If someone asked us right now, how much money would we need to develop a
Healthy California, which means focusing on these major cities- Oakland (Bay
Area), Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Fresno, our answer would be 20
million dollars. Feed A Nation is a campaign to involve artist and
entertainers, foundations, individuals, etc, who want to see Healthy Economics
immediately, and independently. While we are gracious for support we have and
will continue to receive from foundations, etc, we are more gracious when that
support comes from individuals and organizations that say “we want to support
now!” For example: If you can reach: Stevie Wonder, Prince, or other artist
that are willing to share their talents to vocalize the need of us being able to
feed ourselves, please pass this information to them.
The Feed A Nation concert is scheduled for September of 2006.
