The Familyhood Connection Inc's Healthy Economics Campaign is not a program per se.
It is a campaign to create collaborations within the community that work together to provide healthy businesses.
The Healthy Economics Model defines the high school as the nucleus for community organizing and community development.
The mission of the Familyhood Connection Inc, is to promote programs that bring the generations together.
We believe, one of the root factors that relate to many of the issues facing our communities today, are the result of a prevalent generation gap within the Black family, and the community as a whole.
During my years teaching at McClymonds, Mr. Archie Belford, an alumni of McClymonds high school, class of 1948, use to visit McClymonds and carry his old yearbook to show the students how things use to be.
The students were astoundished to see all the programs on the schools campus. For example, they saw pictures of the schools debate club, chess club, school band, etc, and could argue that Mr. Belford received a better education than the one they were receiving.
Where did all the programs go, that once provided for the entire student body?
Generally speaking, cut backs in education, resulted in many programs once housed and adminstered by the school, to be cut and later reclaimed by an outside organization (non-profit corporation) as described above.
