![]() ABOUT MO' BETTER FOOD In 1996, The Familyhood Connection Inc, a 501 c-3, a non- profit corporation, held the Mo' Better Food Conference in San Francisco. The official title of the conference was, The Mo' Better Food Conference, Who will supply healthy food for the African- American community? Of course, we thought the typical answer would be African- American farmers! We knew African- American farmers made up less than 1% in the State of California. However, we had no idea, who our farmers were? Where they lived? What they grew? The purpose of the Mo' Better Food conference was to ask those in attendance the above questions with the intent of gaining the input of the community to answer the above questions. We realized, most of the grocery stores in our neighborhood had been converted into liquor stores. Thus, making it extremely difficult for local residents to find fresh fruits and vegetables. |
